Migrating DM 5 data bugs

It may just be me, but when I try to migrate my DM5 data to DM6 Beta and browse to the location of my DM5 data file, DM6 Beta doesn't want to "take" the new location after I've located it. When I click the "select" button it takes me back to the window and still shows C:\donor5\data as the source of the data.

A bug, or me?

It sounds like a bug to me, Jerry. Let me dig around a bit and see if I can fix that.

Hmmm. I did some testing here and it seemed to work OK for me.

I'll dig around a bit more. Just out of curiosity, what folders to you have your DM 5 and DM 6 installed in?

DM 5 is in c:\Program FIles\donor5. DM 6 is in c:\donor6

Jerry,

I made a small adjustment in the DM 5 importer.

From within DM 6, do a "Check for program updates" (aka "live update") and pull down beta 8.

Give that a try and see if it makes any difference for you. Let me know how it goes.

That fixed it. I did get an error message saying "alias 'PREFS' is not found" and i had to click "cancel" to get past it ("ignore" didn't work) but as far as I can tell, everything migrated intact.

Thanks.

Jerry

Jerry,

Thanks for the info on the "prefs not found" error. That is helpful.

I've fixed that error, too, I think in beta 9. Pull that down via the update and see if the error goes away.

As you have noticed, there error is not a deal breaker. It is just saving the location of your dm5 data for the next time you do an import.

Let me know how it goes with beta 9. I do appreciate your help.

I downloaded Beta 9 and still get the error. When I click the Cancel button, it actually closes DM. When I go to Migrate data from DM 5... the correct file location for my DM 5 is what appears in the file location field. It remembered it from the previous time.

Which error? Do you mean the "prefs not found error?" or is it a different one?

Yes, it's the prefs not found error, but here's what I learned. When I tried the migration using the link on the opening/home screen, everything works and no error is received.

However, if I click "Tools" at the top on the home screen, then pick the "import data..." link in the left column menu on the next page, and then pick the "migrate..." link, I DO get the error then.

That help?

Jerry

Yes, that helps. Or, at least is points me in the right director for further digging.

Interestingly, they both use the same code (theoretically), but obviously something's not working quite right.

Thanks again.

I found a slight difference in the code used in those two routines, and that seems to have fixed it.

I'll put this in beta 10 which I'll upload after I fix a few other issues.

Thanks again for your help with this.

Beta 10 is available for download now. Give that a try and see if it works better from the /Tools /Import menu.

Yep, it appears to be fixed there, too. Success at slaying that dragon!

Great. In the words of the great American philosopher, Hannibal Smith, "I love it when a plan comes together."
