Re: Error Importing Gifts from WBT HTML File

This usually comes if the gift importer gets confused with the file, and the html files are often problematic. Send me a copy of the html file that is giving problems and I'll be glad to take a look. john@donormanager.com The confidentiality of your partner information will, of course, be carefully ...

Re: Live Update problem on DM 5.84.00

Sometimes this is due an aggressive anti-virus program.

Sometimes, it's just a temporary problem with the download process.

If you consistently get this error, try temporarily disabling your anti-virus and see if that makes a difference. Let me know how it goes.

Re: Export a selected Group's Data to Excel

Hi Micah,

Thanks for your question. Sorry you are having problem with this export.

I made a short screen video about this process. Take a look at this and let me know if that helps.

Re: DM6 in Linux/Wine - can't type anything!

Thanks for the additional information.

I've tested it on my Linux Mint 17.1 here and have not seen this issue.

Re: exporting/migrating Flags/Groups

Thanks for your good question. In DM 5, the "user defined groups" was managed through the "flag" fields in the donor master file. This was very easy to work with, but ended up giving a limit of just 10 "flags" or "groups." In DM 6, some additional tables were created to manage the new "groups" featu...

Re: Exporting touches

Thanks for your question. The touches table is structured like this: link (an internal code DM uses to link this file to the partner master record) touch type (call, email, letter, meeting, etc.) name (partner name) type (of touch) date (of touch) comment (your comments) is there follow up to do (ye...

Re: Paper & Email newsletter method

I've made a number of changes in how this works in the Donor Manager, starting with version 6.10.01. Do a live update and see if that helps. Here is the change: If you say "give me paper newsletter recipients" you will get those flagged as "paper" and also those flagged as "both." The same logic is ...

Re: Adding sort columns

I don't think you are missing anything. The current version of the DM does not allow you to customize which columns appear on its lists. But, I'm always happy to receive suggestions on what would be useful to you. One caution, though: I would be careful about putting a spouse name in the "Name 2" co...

Re: Email Service

When you tell the Donor Manager to send an email, it simply sends a command to Windows that says "Please start up the default email program." So, whatever program is set to be your default program starts. Since GMail is browser based, it takes a little more work (because Windows has to start your br...

Re: Paper & Email newsletter method

Interesting problem.

It sounds like we need 4 options here:
  • E-Mail Only
  • Paper Only
  • Either E-Mail or Paper
  • Both E-Mail and Paper
Does that sound right to you?

I think your point is well taken.

I will make that adjustment in the DM 5 -> DM 6 migration.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: 5 Year Giving Trends Chart not updating

Sorry to be slow in responding. Your post slipped by me. Do a live update to make sure you have the latest version (currently 6.09). Check your monthly giving history (Partner Development -> Monthly Giving Totals) to make sure the numbers are in there. If all looks well, then contact me by email: jo...

Moving your DM data folder to another location

I recently received an email with this question: I would like to move my DM installation / data folder from c:\donor6 to a different location on my computer. How can I do this? The DM program can be installed almost anywhere on your computer, except in c:\program files. (A future update to the progr...

Re: DM6 in Linux/Wine - can't type anything!

I've not heard of this problem before. Very interesting. There are quite a few people using the Linux / Wine combination, although I don't know what DIstros they are using. I'll test it on my Mint 17 this weekend, and also a Zorin install I have too to see if it is an issue there. So, I'm not sure i...
